Here you can learn more about an important part of our ministry that focuses on providing educational opportunities and exposure to the Gospel for underserved students in Cambodia.
The Khmer (Cambodian) word Plas Prai means “transformation”. The Plas Prai Center High School Dorm exists to serve high school students in the Cambodian countryside who live more than 7 kilometers from a public high school. Their families do not have the financial resources to rent a room near the high school for their children. . . .
. . .The Plas Prai Center provides a safe place for these students to live while attending 10th through 12th grade. Students receive uniforms, a bicycle to ride to school each day, school books, three meals a day and extra tutoring in their major subjects. In addition, because our faith compels us, we take the opportunity to share the love of Christ and the message of salvation through Him with these students. Small group studies, involvement in a local church, one-on-one mentorship and seeing the gospel lived out daily through the staff give the students an opportunity to really know who God is and what his plan of salvation means. The vast majority of these 36 students come from villages where there is no gospel witness.
And so, we believe God has called us to meet two needs through this dorm ministry: 1) provide the opportunity of a high school education, and 2) provide the opportunity to hear and understand the gospel. Each year more than 85% of our seniors pass their final exams, far above the national average. And each year about 4-6 students choose to be baptized.
Our World Team Preah Vihear team is blessed to work with dedicated Cambodian national missionary partners and volunteers. Together we are able to daily serve the students on site. However, we need partners who will commit to praying for these students and providing the resources needed for their stay at the dorm. Sponsorship for one student is $60 per month or $720 per year. If you would like to partner with us in this way, or if you would like to give a one-time gift toward this work, please see the Sponsor Liaison and Support Link information below.
Thank you for your interest in what God is doing in Preah Vihear Cambodia through the Plas Prai Center. We are grateful!

Chanda (pronounced Jan-dá) - This 16 year old young lady was abandoned by her parents from what we can tell. She is one of three children and lives with her grandparents and aunt. Her family members are farmers, other than her grandfather, who is a soldier. She would like to follow in his footsteps and join the Cambodian armed services as well.
This young man is the oldest of three siblings. His parents are farmers and their family lives in one of the most remote villages in the province. Chhunny regularly scores high in his school work. As he's now been given the opportunity to finish high school, Chhunny has set his sights on law enforcement for his future.
Leakna (pronounced laý-ek-ki-ná) is 15-years old and the youngest in her family. We have taken her two older siblings at the Plas Prai and have been discipling her family since 2016. Leakna's father was hit by a car and killed in February this year. Her mother has stage four cancer. Leakna is regularly top in her class and would like to study medicine one day if she has the opportunity.
Panha (pronounced ban-yá) - this 15-year-old young man is the brother of one of our volunteer staff and former student, Sophoeurt. He and his family came to faith over this past year through the influence of his sister. He is a good student and has a vision to strengthen his country by becoming a soldier.
Panhavet (pronounced ban-yá-vet) - After his father died two years ago, Panhavet's older brother came to study high school with us in Plas Prai. Their financial situation is quite destitute. Panhavet was able to continue his current middle school studies with help from a humanitarian agency which provided a bicycle for him. At 16 years old, he is a good student and hopes to protect his country in the future by becoming a soldier
Sokcheim (pronounced sok-jeḿ) - At 18 years old, Sokchem is the oldest of our incoming students. At the same time, he is the youngest of 5 children in his family. He lives with his older sister as both of his parents have passed away. His father died when he was just a baby but he lost his mother just 2 years ago. Part of why he is an older student was that he had to stop studying entirely during Covid. If he had not been accepted to Plas Prai, Sokchem would have given up and started working this year. He is grateful for an opportunity to finish his education at the Plas Prai.
Soklin (pronounced sok-liń) is the third child of six in her family and she lives with her aunt. There has been some abuse in her family, and this has inspired her to try to study high school in order to join the police force. Soklin had an older brother who cared for the needs of the family, but he died two years ago. If Soklin had not been accepted at Plas Prai she would have stopped studying to help her family. She is hopeful now to continue studying and therefore get a better job to help care for her family in the future.
Sophors is the second of two children. She lives with her mother in a one room bamboo walled home. They farm rice and potatoes. Her father left the family when she was two years old. Despite the poverty, Sophors has been able to rank #3 in her class. She’d like to be a middle school biology teacher one day. She is thankful that she might now achieve this goal because she has been accepted to study at Plas Prai.
Sowphorn (pronounced sow-pawń) - This young man is a strong student. He is the second of two children in his family. His older sister stopped studying at 9th grade. His parents are subsistence farmers whose land floods fairly often. Sowphorn would love to be a middle school teacher and help "explain life" to the younger students.
Srey Kuich (pronounced sray koó-ij) is 15 years old and the second child in her family. Her older brother stopped studying after completing 4th grade. She now lives with her brother as her father took a new wife and her mother is working at a factory to pay overwhelming debt. She would like to finish high school and go on to train to be an elementary school teacher if she has the opportunity.
Theara (pronounced tee-a-rá) is the 6th of 8 children. All of her older siblings stopped studying by 9th grade. Her father seems to have a chronic illness. On her last semester test, Theara was first in her class. Theara is grateful to be able to study at Plas Prai and she hopes to not only be the first child to finish high school but also hopes to receive a scholarship to study medicine in the future.
Toho (pronounced do-ló) - Toho is the 4th of 5 children in the family and his mother passed away 4 years ago. He is happy to be accepted at the Plas Prai because he can have extra tutoring in the evening. He is also glad to have an atmosphere that encourages prioritizing study. Eventually, he'd like to join the police force.
Mony will be going to YWAM’s Discipleship Training School. He would like to pursue animal husbandry in the future and raise animals as a business in his home town. But first, Mony wants to solidify the foundation of his faith by learning more about what it means to follow Jesus with his whole heart.
Phearoth has plans to start his own electrical business in the future. He has been top in his electrical classes these last three years, often being called on by the teacher to work on projects together. Before he does this, he will spend 6 months at the Discipleship Training School run by YWAM in Battambang city in order to grow deeper in his relationship with the Lord.
Phunry hopes to study law and acquire a job in the legal field. She’s applied for a scholarship and a place in a Christian dorm in Phnom Penh. Phunry also decided to follow Jesus over this last year and was baptized in August. She is hopeful to begin her new life in Christ as a University student.
Vanna has decided he would like to be in full-time ministry. God has truly transformed this young man. Vanna is so excited about God’s work in his life, he wants to spend the rest of his life sharing that good news with others. He will study at the Discipleship Training School starting in January 2024 for six months.
Vanrong is uncertain about the long term future, but has decided to attend the Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Battambang for six months. Vanrong’s transformation started in his first year at Plas Prai and he believes he is not done yet! He is looking forward to how God will work in his life through DTS.
Ven also plans to attend the Discipleship Training School and has high hopes of returning to Plas Prai to volunteer helping with the young men on campus. When Ven started at Plas Prai he says he was addicted to gaming and his phone. He says the Lord has freed him of this and changed him in many ways. Now he wants to live his life for Jesus.
Please join us in praying for these new students, most of whom do not have a saving knowledge of Jesus. They will be exposed to the Good News regularly and in many ways over the next three years. And through our caring and committed staff, they will experience Jesus among them.
Chose a specific student, give to the overall support of the Plas Prai ministry or pray for the ongoing work of the Spirit in the lives of these young people.
$60 per month over three years will allow these students to complete their high school education while part of a safe and nurturing environment.
The sponsor liaison will help you stay in touch with your student and send updates and prayer needs at least twice a year.
Click the "Liaison" button If you would like to sponsor a student or click the "Support" link to make a general non-student specific donation.

We are a global mission agency dedicated to church planting among unreached people groups.
Our goal is to make disciples and equip the local church to grow and multiply by sharing the hope of Christ in word and deed.
